Perspectivas teóricas del estudio del estatus en las relaciones internacionales

Este artículo analiza el desarrollo reciente de la literatura sobre el «estatus» (o prestigio) en las relaciones internacionales, con especial atención a su dimensión doméstica. Propone una clasificación en cuatro familias –racionalismo, identidad social, relacionalismo y práctica social– y argumenta que todas ellas coinciden en concebir al estatus como un fenómeno preeminentemente interestatal. A través del análisis conceptual y la revisión bibliográfica, se muestra cómo el estatus también opera como recurso político interno, especialmente en estados pequeños, donde puede ser instrumentalizado por las élites para fortalecer su legitimidad. El artículo identifica tres tendencias en la literatura –expansión conceptual, integración teórica y diversificación empírica– y contribuye a su circulación en el mundo hispanohablante, promoviendo una aplicación y refinamiento en España y América Latina.
