FOCUS AND SCOPE
The Revista de la Sociedad Geológica de España publishes articles related to any area of Earth Sciences. Works on the geology of the Iberian Peninsula and nearby areas are particularly welcome, in addition to those related to the History of Geology, Geological Heritage, and similar topics. Work reviewing or compiling information on specific topics with an updated scientific perspective will also be evaluated for possible publication in the journal. The works must be original and unpublished, that is, not published (or not accepted) in another journal, either in full or in parts and/or in another language. All articles will be reviewed by at least two specialists (peer review) and by the Editorial Committee.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS AND EVALUATION
The manuscripts will be sent to the Revista de la Sociedad Geológica de España through the RECYT platform (Make a Submission) for evaluation and peer review, so that all the editorial management of manuscripts and workflow will be carried out through the OJS/PKP publication system.
Once the process of electronic submission of the work has been completed correctly, the person identified as the “corresponding author” will receive an email message as acknowledgment of receipt, and will be able to access the manuscript workflow throughout the editorial process.
The Editorial Committee of the Revista de la Sociedad Geológica de España will be in charge of managing the review of the manuscripts received. In a preliminary evaluation, the adaptation of the work to the publication rules and whether the contents are in accordance with the editorial scop of the magazine will be assessed. During this first evaluation, the work may be rejected if it is not original, if it does not have a focus or scope appropriate to the theme of the magazine or does not have the required format. Failure to comply with the journal's publication rules and guidelines for the preparation of the manuscript will be sufficient reason for its rejection.
Once the editors consider that the work meets the preliminary requirements, the manuscript will be sent to two anonymous experts, to be reviewed and evaluated in depth, through the "single-blind peer review" system, that is, the reviewer will not know the name of the authors of the work before accepting the review. Once he/she has accepted the review, the reviewer will know the names of the authors and will be asked about any potential conflict of interest. The reviewers will be anonymous people, unless they indicate otherwise during the review process and sign their report to identify themselves. In this way, it will be up to the reviewers to identify themself to the authors, if they prefer. In case of total discrepancy in the evaluations, the work will be sent to a third person who, if necessary, may be one of those who are part of the Scientific Committee.
Each year, the list of reviewers who have participated in the evaluation of the manuscripts will be published in the second semester issue (December), with their implicit approval to publish their name, as indicated in the guide for reviewers. For those people who expressly express their wish to remain anonymous, only the institution to which they belong will be published.
Once the reports of the people who have reviewed the work are available, the Editor-in-Chief will issue a first decision on the manuscript, indicating whether the work is accepted or requires minor, moderate or major modifications, or if it is rejected. If it is accepted with modifications, the original manuscript must be corrected following the reviewers' observations. In this case, the authors will have 15 calendar days to make the appropriate modifications and justify, through a mandatory report, the changes introduced in the manuscript and possible discrepancies with the opinions expressed by the people who have reviewed the work. Once these documents have been evaluated, the Editor-in-Chief will decide if the new version of the document needs a second review or, if applicable, can be definitively accepted.
