Abstract

The aim of these pages is to offer some reflections on the centrality that the teaching of history
should once again have today, in order to educate young people to live the challenges posed to them by the
complexity of their times, and to help them to think historically, that is, to apply the rules of the historical
method to the analysis of the present. In this context, the new historiographical paths that the globalized
world has brought to the attention of historians and the teaching methods that are necessary to teach them
in schools will be considered. In particular, it will be pointed out that Italy is lagging behind in its reflection
on the teaching of history.
