Abstract

Educational regulations have numerous references to musical heritage, but to guarantee its presence in schools it is necessary for music teachers to feel competent and rooted in it, since they are ultimately responsible for transferring the curriculum to the classroom. For this reason, this has the purpose of knowing the perceptions of music teachers in Compulsory Secondary Education about the initial training received, the value and the use they make of musical heritage in their teaching practice. For that purpose, a non-experimental quantitative investigation has been carried out through a questionnaire made up of 13 items, and with a sample of 127 active teachers. The results show the existence of significant differences in terms of the academic training of teachers on musical heritage depending on the access qualifications. In addition, it is concluded that the high value that teachers give to musical heritage conflicts with the low capacity and scarce use within their didactic programming. It is necessary to improve the training on heritage that is being given in the degrees that give access to the body of ESO music teachers, in order to obtain a teaching staff capable of carrying out educational projects that claim the care of our musical legacy.
