Abstract

The fight against climate change has like priority the objective of reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. In order to comply that objective, there is a bridging technology who allows capturing the carbon dioxide from industrial installations, transporting to a storage site, and, finally, injecting into a a suitable underground geological formation for the purposes of permanent storage. For the regulation of this activity and the transposition of the Directive, it has approved the Ley 40/2010, de 29 de diciembre, de almacenamiento geológico de dióxido de carbono. This study presents the features of that Act and explains the four main questions of the new regulation: subject and temporal matter; the exploration permit and the storage permit; the discussed competence distribution; and, finally, the transfer of responsibility to the State when the storage site has been closed.
