Abstract

The Legge sulla municipalizzazione dei pubblici servizi of 1903 is the first general regulation on Municipal Trading in Europe. For that reason, it was followed, admired or criticized at the time by many academics and legislators throughout the European continent. In some countries, it was even taken as a model for subsequent laws. This was the case in Spain at the beginning of the 20th century, where political debates and legal projects were deeply influenced by that regulation. This paper analyses how the influence of this Italian rule may be identified in our first Law on Municipal Trading: the Estatuto municipal of Calvo Sotelo, passed in 1924.
