Abstract

The present research aims to contribute to the study of the factors that cause the underrepresentation of women in parliaments, focusing on the case of the Spanish Congress of Deputies, where there seems to be an inverse correlation between the growth of an radical right and anti-feminist party like Vox and the smallest number of female parliamentarians in the chamber. By analyzing the candidacies and electoral results of each political party in each of the elections, the effectiveness of the quota by constituency and political party has been measured. The results show us that the number of women elected will fundamentally depend on the will of the political parties when preparing the candidacies and placing women in starting positions.
