Abstract

Aldea Moret was a mining village specialised in phosphate mining located close to the capital of the province of Cáceres. Although we know that miners were present in the Calerizo area of Cáceres in the 1860s and 1870s due to the exploitation of the mines, it was not until the Sociedad General de Fosfato de Cáceres was established in 1876 that a hamlet was formed for the mine workers. In this study we will analyse the creation and development of the village until the 1920s, highlighting the power of attraction that it exercised among the population of the province of Cáceres and of the neighbouring provinces during favourable economic periods. It also studies the magnitude of the female workforce employed in the manipulation of the mineral after its extraction from the mine.
