Abstract

This text presents the first historical database of maritime and river transport infrastructure in Spain during the Modern Age and the Liberal Period. To do so, we have inventoried and geolocated the ports, lighthouses, canals, and navigable rivers that were in use from the mid-17th century to the early 20th century. We have also included a series of attributes that provide additional information about opening and closing years, hierarchy, or technical characteristics of these elements. These data are presented in shapefile format with all the mentioned attributes and can be used and analyzed in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for cartographic, spatial analysis, and network analysis purposes.
