Punta Europa and Atlántida: two responses to the teological politic (1956-1970)

Abstract

From the last century mid-fifties, the Spanish society underwent a«creative destruction» process (Schumpeter) which combined economic development and considerable social transformation, with the Second Vatican Council theological politic significance. All those things contributed to questioning the legitimacy of the cultural, intellectual and religious bases of the politic regimen arose from the Civil War. In this scenario, the intelligentsia divided projects and both differing strategies. The first, personified by the Punta Europa magazine, bet for the continuity of traditional theological politic, namely, the religious regimen legitimacy. The second, represented by the Atlántida magazine team, expected drew up a project of modernist and neoconservative basis, which objective was harmonize the authoritarian political system with the new political, socioeconomic and religious situations.
