Abstract

This paper aims to achieve a spatial modeling of Urban Heat Island at night and of
its effects in the city and metropolitan area of Madrid during the summer. Different methods,
resources and reference scales were used, normalized and combined: State Meteorological
Agency, Atmospheric Contamination Monitoring and Municipal Network, amateur observers
(METEOCLIMATIC), land uses from URBAN ATLAS and satellite images of Land surface
temperature (MODIS). The resulting model allows us an estimation of the spatial distribution,
frequency, intensity and thermal impact of the heat waves in the summer.
