Abstract

Ecosystem services (ES) are the benefits of ecosystems that support human well-being. In Latin America, the use of ES science in urban planning is still developing. This work presents an analysis of the provision and spatial distribution of ES in an area of 1,873 hectares north of Bogotá that has comprehensive planning (POZN). The method makes a marginal evaluation of ES by comparing the current supply with the future, evidencing the changes introduced in the provision of existing ES due to the POZN and 14 approved partial plans. The results show that the ES decreases for provisioning services, slightly increases for regulating services and greatly increases for cultural services. The articulation of scientific knowledge in urban planning can greatly contribute to sustainable urban development.
