Abstract

This article analyzes the management of noise pollution mitigation generated by
a large airport, with a high growth rate of air traffic, and surrounded by densely populated residential areas. For the case study, Bogotá-El Dorado International Airport (Colombia), the different actions developed are analyzed and evaluated all of them based on the «balanced approach» of the ICAO, with the objective of mitigating the acoustic pollution produced by the airport in its surrounding area. The results obtained are presented and evaluated. The main achievements of the environmental policy implemented regarding the noise mitigation at the airport show that the population exposed at the year 2014 has decreased by 40% in comparison with 2002, while both the population of localities surrounding the airport and operations at the airport have increased in the same period, approximately by 180% (population) and 120% (operations).
