Abstract

The SIOSE project shows the most accurate and updated information about land use in
Spain, which constitutes the basis of knowledge of the processes that took place over the territory.
The aim of the paper is to assess the soundness of this data source in order to quantify the
residential and industrial land which has been developed but remains without any buildings or
development. This land has regained significance because of the real state bubble burst. Also, we
aim to discover their evolution using information from two different periods of time (2005 and
2009). The application of the methodology is used on the Valencia Community and the results verify
the validity and importance of the information, but taking into account the SIOSE structure and the
character of this land. Regarding the practice, results show that 16.9% of the residential typology
and 29.8% of the industrial one had not been developed any further. In both cases the rate of
urbanization was higher than the building, indicating that the industry did not foresee the end of
the expansive stage.
