Under-regional tourism planning: an approach to basic features in Andalusia (2000-2011)

Abstract

Underregional tourism plans in its different names (depending on which entity drives it,
the State or any autonomous region) have gained significant importance on the agenda of tourism
policy as action instruments to improve the elements of particular territorial tourist attraction in a
destination at local level. The role of these programs met the implementation of the sustainable
strategic model in State and regional tourism planning, in order to incorporate the destination local
governments and private actors in the subregional plan. The importance gained by these instruments
has not been accompanied by their presence in the tourism research agenda. This work try to
advance an analytical approach of the main characteristics of subregional tourism plans in the
Autonomous Region of Andalusia, where in the last ten years these instruments have revealed of
great relevance, as a first step for characterization, essential to advance in the knowledge and
evaluation of their results.
