Abstract

The paper examines the distribution as between metropolitan centres and intensive communications and
information sourcing sectors within the RMB. Were closeness to hand to be of a premium for these, it is
argued that their locating should be so much the tighter than in other activities. The findings here offered
indicate that although these other activities have indeed undergone a general process of decentralization
between 1991 and 2001, the same has not held for those here under study, these remaining much more
concentrated. Their relevant sub-centres have shown a proportionally greater growth in employment which
is here thought to point to a concentrating decentralization. The increase in the number of such sub-centres
in also considered worthy of attention.
