Abstract

to have justly earned itself the title of the diffuse city asks himself if it still be possible at all to define,
recognise or even trace the old idea of what a city was, the urbanising process in spate having erased the
traditional distinctions between, town and country, city centre and suburbs, metropolitan and non-metropolitan
space. The paper questions the very possibility of comprehending the City Unlimited's being spatially
understood in its borderlessness, wonders alike at how an urban or metropolitan area without edges could
be circumscribed.
The author, whose seemingly hopeful standpoint as to all this and this even at the cost of abandoning
traditional and time honoured ideas concepts of the urban fact, is led to conclude that the epistemological
uncertainty it breeds beggars all knowledge of both City and Territory.
