Abstract

Postwar Spain was a difficult period; also for architecture. Many young architects of that time began to rebuild a devastated and poor country. Later they would be ‘masters’ of modern Spanish architecture, but their start was marked by scarcity and ideology. The article deals with the work that some of them carried out at the National Institute of Colonization, almost their only occasion for architectural experimentation. It is done through the study of what we have called ‘intermediate space’: a space of neighborhood relationship halfway between the institutional square and the street path. By means of graphic analysis, the most relevant variants of these new spaces in urban planning of that time will be exposed. It is intended to value contributions of great urban interest, the result of the concern of those young architects in difficult times.
