The issue 35(1) of the Spanish Journal of Sociology features a special issue on international migration in rural areas, consisting of an editorial and seven articles: (a) how migration to rural areas produces inequalities that disproportionately affect women, (b) evidence suggesting that immigrants’ political integration is stronger in rural areas than in urban ones, (c) a snapshot of how local governments in small towns position themselves toward immigration, ranging from welcoming to outright rejection, (d) a multilevel map of agendas and policies linking migration and rural development, (e) how migrants’ incorporation into local labor markets reshapes rural territories, (f) the rural school as both a magnet and a bridge for migrant families’ integration, with mixed effects, and (g) an ethnographic analysis of the migration–gender–development nexus. In addition, the issue includes four miscellaneous articles: (1) a study of different forms of loneliness, (2) an analysis of risk and protective factors for undergraduates’ mental health, (3) research on ethnic diversity in prison, and (4) a study explaining why women tend to be more religious than men.
