Life events related to family formation; partnership and having children, condition the structure of the social networks of older people, which in turn conditions the quality of life in old age. This work applies a life course approach to explore the relationship between family trajectories of older men and women in Spain and their quality of life. The analysis uses the retrospective data for Spain of the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), to generate a typology of family trajectories separately for men and women. After this, we examine the association between the resulting typologies and the CASP-12 indicator of quality of life, using a multivariate lineal regression model. The results showed that only the individuals with trajectories characterized by having a partner but not having children have a considerable low level of quality of life in old age, regardless the sex of the person.
