The exotic cult of Hercules in the Ara Maxima

The archaic sacrifice to Mercure in the Ara Maxima at the Forum Boarium required those present to wear a crown of poplar; the victims of any kind needed to be consumed completely; no other divinity was invoked; the presence of women, dogs and flies was prohibited; it involved the practice of tithe; etc. Its origin (latin? phoenician? greek? etruscan?) of this cult, taken to Rome by merchants, can explain the ritual exotism.
