Abstract

In Ricos y Pobres (Rich and Poor) Julio Carabaña intends to unravel, by means of a study of income distribution, the false belief about the rise –or rather the elevated magnitude- of economic inequality in Spain. Thus, the objective of this text is to elucidate whether the achievement of the objective is effective and, in this regard, the focus is on the interpretations and the data presented by the author, although it is on the origin of the latter as well. Ultimately, we conclude that inequality has risen during the last “great recession”, that lowest incomes diminish while higher ones increase –or maintain- their weight in the cycle balance distribution, as well as the fact that the book does not consider every possible alternative regarding the solution of the problem, thus questioning some of the author’s observations.
