Derecha radical y populismo: ¿consustanciales o contingentes? Precisiones en torno al caso de VOX

Recientemente, con la institucionalización de VOX en la arena política, se ha puesto fin al llamado “excepcionalismo español”. VOX ha sido rápidamente caracterizado, no solo como miembro de la familia de partidos de la derecha radical, sino también como populista. Esto va en sintonía con buena parte de la literatura, que concibe cualquier manifestación de la derecha radical como intrínsecamente populista. No obstante, existen razones para cuestionar esta visión en ocasiones acrítica y con escaso fundamento empírico. A partir del marco ofrecido por el Discourse-Theoretical Analysis (DTA), se analizan programas y documentos de élites de VOX con objeto de examinar en profundidad su discurso. Los resultados muestran que la oferta de VOX se enmarca en una narrativa netamente nacionalista (basada en un antagonismo endogrupo vs. exogrupo), sin que sea posible identificar un intento por construir discursivamente un sujeto popular. En definitiva, estos hallazgos apuntan a la necesidad de desarrollar una agenda de investigación sobre la derecha radical que conciba el populismo como una expresión contingente más que como un rasgo inherente. Además, este giro deberá avanzar hacia un abordaje más matizado, sistemático y anclado en la evidencia empírica.
