Abstract

The interview is divided into three parts. First, we discuss why Conservation is not just a win-win solution to the environmental crises and why it is necessary to problematize mainstream conservation. In this sense, Brockington argues that there is a clear and strong history within conservation practices in many countries, where Conservation is associated with the injustice of eviction and dispossession. Furthermore, it is argued that trying to separate places where destruction occurs cannot be a sustainable solution because the sort of engine of destruction, the capitalist system, is still going strong. In the second part, Brockington explains how neoliberal policies have changed, reinforced, or transformed how we understand Conservation. In that regard, Brockington argues how neoliberal Conservation tries to find ways of reducing the environment into simple commodities. Finally, in the third part, we talked about what has improved and which changes are needed in Conservation.
