Abstract

The relationship between feminism and assisted reproduction techniques is a story of encounters and disagreements. Among them, surrogacy is probably the one that generates the most debate now, because it divides feminism between detractors of the practice and defenders of it. The objective of this work is to know what the opinion of Spanish “grassroots” feminists about surrogate pregnancy is. To answer this question, a survey has been distributed among feminists with different ages, ideological tendencies and degrees of participation in activism. Taking the concept of political socialisation as the fundamental axis of analysis, we will analyse the opinion of these feminists regarding the wombs for rent based on their activism. The possibility of complementing this research in the future with a greater population sample that allows generalizing the results, as well as an extension considering the realities of other countries, is still open.
