Abstract

Research on female sexuality carried out between 1933 and 1961, which was not published until 1971 by Franco's censorship. Steering away from the moralistic, legal and scientific discourses of the time, Serrano Vicéns collects the testimony of 1.417 women of different ages and social class to analyse their sexual behaviour. This study explicitly reflects autoerotic practices, sexual activity before, during and outside of marriage, and homosexual practices among women. The free expression of female sexuality is defended as a necessary element for modernity, gender equality and women's rights. Alfred Kinsey catalogued this study as one of the most complete statistical works of those that had been carried out in Europe.
