Abstract

The selected texts present the introduction and epilogue of Ramón Serrano-Vicéns’s book, La sexualidad femenina Una investigación estadística y psíquica directa (Ediciones Jucar, 1975). The author presents there the details, difficulties and main original contributions of the research conducted, a worldwide forerunner in the study of women’s sexual practices and behaviour, and discussing sex education. His work also places us in the complex historical context of sexual repression under Franco’s dictatorship, which conditioned through decades the development of sexuality for women and men in Spain, and the author’s own research. This allows us to underline its ethnological value with regard to other researches on sexuality coming out in those years, like those of Alfred C. Kinsey in the United States.
