Abstract

The foundation of Queer Theory that Judith Butler offers in works such as GenderTrouble has led to the proliferation of various social practices aimed to deconstruct and to subvert the heteronormative identities of sex-gender, placing the agents on a continuous and emancipatory identitary wandering. Butler mantains that this implies the renunciation of Universalist politics of representation on the basis of an inherent risk of substancializing inscriptions of the sexual dimorphism and the phallogocentrism of western culture. The aim of this paper is to analyze whether from this proposal it is possible to articulate social transformation in masculinities, not only to free men from the demands of hegemonic masculinity, but also to contribute to the social equality of the sexes.
