Abstract

Amongst third-party assisted reproductive practices, gestational surrogacy is probably the one that clashes the most with the heterosexual constitution of kinship and the set of norms governing the social production of motherhood. Departing from the analysis of some of these challenges, this essay explores the most relevant biopolitical intersections among state regulations of the reproductive field and the ongoing “surrogacy wars” dividing feminist politics, with a special attention to their rhetoric and argumentative abolitionist genealogy.
