Lineages and politics. A preliminary approximation from a case study: the Balearic Islands (2014-2016)

This article seeks to increase our knowledge about the relationships between social groups and politics, based on a case study. For this purpose, an indirect method has been applied: a surnames frequency analysis. A sample formed by all the anthroponyms of the congressmen, senators, MEPs and autonomic parliamentarians resident in the Balearic Islands and currently in exercise has been created. Then, several descriptive indicators have been computed, such as the surnames frequencies description or the identification of those surnames that had substantial political importance in the past. We aim to analyze the relationships between surnames and politicians.
