The position of individuals in the socio-occupational structure has frequently been used to account for other essential social problems as the differentials in living conditions, the social mobility and even the political opinions, but it may first, be treated as an object of research. This article aims to contribute to the debate around the measurement of the socio-occupational structure by putting into dialogue two forms of approach and social classification: on the one hand, from a proposal of classification based on a theoretical-methodological perspective of Susana Torrado considered as classic in the studies on this field; and, on the other hand, through the exploration of occupational data and the construction of clusters using multivariate analysis techniques. It is observed that the techniques of analysis of multiple correspondences and classification acquire deep pertinence for the study of the socio-occupational structure, as they allow to dimension the weight of the existing distinctions in a population and the distances between the socio-occupational groupings in an specific context.
