Abstract

With the aim of deepening our understanding of the far right, this monograph reflects on the research approaches and methodologies that promote a comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon. Among the contributions, the widespread use of qualitative approaches stands out, placing discourse at the centre of a critical analysis. Similarly, the articles devote significant attention to the realm of emotions and social panic, which form the basis of far-right ideology. With a view to future research, the introduction to this monograph invites us to re-establish the socio-historical dimension in sociological reflection. At the same time, it suggests the use of conceptual tools adapted to the current far right, following the historical thread, without fetishising past categories of analysis. For the time being, certain studies that resort to the category of “illiberalism” attempt to take these guidelines into account and adapt the approach to a phenomenon in constant transformation.
