Democracia e islamismo: ¿un matrimonio imposible?

En este artículo se realiza un análisis sobre la visión de la democracia del islamismo político, así como de su acción política en aquellos países donde se ha hecho con el control del Gobierno. El objetivo del trabajo es valorar hasta qué cierto punto es plausible la teoría de que si los partidos islamistas ganan las elecciones impondrán una dictadura de cariz teocrático. Desde un punto de vista discursivo, se aprecia una evolución muy clara entre la mayoría de partidos islamistas durante las últimas décadas hacia la adopción de los principios democráticos. El estudio de los seis casos en los que partidos o movimientos islamistas han accedido al poder no ofrece datos concluyentes sobre la sinceridad del compromiso de la mayoría de movimientos islamistas respecto a la democracia. Sin embargo, el hecho de que en al menos un caso, el del AKP turco, un partido islamista no haya suprimido las elecciones tras más de seis años en el poder sugiere que la transición ideológica del islamismo político es posible.
