Cambio y estabilidad política en las monarquías del Golfo tras la Primavera Árabe

Los estados del Consejo de Cooperación del Golfo (CCG), ayudados por su carácter rentista, han sobrevivido como regímenes autoritarios hasta la actualidad. No obstante, el anhelo de liberalización política de importantes sectores de la sociedad se evidenció durante la Primavera Árabe. Este artículo muestra cómo estas demandas han sido respondidas por las autoridades con una combinación de medidas redistributivas, cooptativas y represivas, además de una limitada reforma política. Si bien se celebraron elecciones en los seis estados entre 2011 y 2012 como respuesta parcial a las demandas de la ciudadanía, no se ha otorgado mayor poder legislativo a las cámaras representativas. Por el contrario, las medidas redistributivas y la represión parecen garantizar hasta el momento la estabilidad de los sistemas políticos existentes y la continuidad de las familias gobernantes del Golfo en el poder.
