Abstract

Advanced societies have accepted the need for liberal education. This education serves as a guarantee that young people, who will one day become citizens, have the opportunity to thrive. In the United States, however, it continues to spark fierce controversy. Some authors such as Martha Nussbaum and Peter Euben believe the libe-ral education model must be based on Socratic citizenship, whose main focus is the ethical consequences of actions, the citizens’ beliefs within this civic community, and therefore, the cultivation of critical thought.
