Abstract

In this paper we analyze and submit to criticism Heinrich Meier’s characterization of the work of Carl Schmitt as political theology. We identify three notes, with which Meier performs that characterization, and three additional notes added by him in 1998. We try to show how several of these notes are inadequate, especially those that, if applied to Schmitt, restrict their thinking to the limits of a political theology, whose fundament is only faith and excludes reason.
