In the current educational context we find proposals in which the artistic and the interdisciplinary converge, such as the STEAM approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). The purpose of this work is to present a critical review from the perspective of Art Education of STEAM projects developed in Spain from 2008 to 2023 in the field of formal education. To achieve this, a systematic review was conducted across major databases (WOS, SCOPUS, Dialnet, Eric), repositories, and reference websites in the field. In analyzing the collected data, the experiences and possibilities offered by Art Education when integrated with other areas and disciplines were contrasted. The results of this review allowed us to categorize STEAM projects based on the degree of presence and relevance that the "A" (Art) acquires at three levels: high, medium, and low. Additionally, the review identified and outlined their main characteristics. The discussion addresses issues related to the use of the STEAM designation, possibilities, and integration strategies of Art with other disciplines, methodological trends, certain inertia in these practices, and other relevant aspects. In conclusion, a framework of relationships is proposed in line with current educational needs for STEAM projects, emphasizing the importance of the artistic component in this model.
