Abstract

This article intends to renew the debate on Spanish public opinión during Franco's dictatorship, today stagnated at the oíd dy-namics «repression-consensus». In order to do that, one needs to reconsider the relations between the Régime and the Spanish so-ciety, which went far beyond the repression of popular claims. In fact, Franquism enjoyed a considerable social support, and we must ask ourselves why and how this support grew and develo-ped. Finally, historians should reconsider the methodological and theoretical premises that have been unable so far to tackle the question, such as the questionable term «consensus».
