Abstract

This article approaches the historie memory of the Franco Regime through the study of the statues that were built in his honour during the period of his Dictatorship. In order to do this, the time of inauguration is analysed in the first place, identifying three different stages («The Victory», 1936-1959; «The Tribute», 1960-1969; and «The Immobility», 1970-1978). This is followed by an emphasis on the role they played during the political transition, paying special attention to the results obtained in certain áreas of Spain. Finally, the present day situation is examined. Summing up all the attributes of the Franco Regime symbolically above all the conception of Spanish nationalism, the attitude towards these monuments has varied ac-cording to their location.
