Against the Lliga Regionalista. Apa and the left-wing Catalanism during the first years of the Papitu magazine

This article seeks to analyze the caricatures drawn by Apa (Feliu Elias) for the catalan magazine Papitu in the first decade of the 20th. Century. Elias was a left-wing catalanist and his drawings were part of a campaing against the Lliga Regionalista, the wright-wing catalanist party, and especially against Prat de la Riba, one of its main leaders. Apa's caricatures were extremely violent and highly offensive. However, we will show that, in fact, the political differencies between right and left Catalanism were not so deep.Downloads
