Abstract

Part of the Spanish National-Catholicism was grouped between 1944 and 1956 in the political-cultural project of the 1948 generation. They were organized around the magazines Arbor and Ateneo, the publisher Rialp, collections O crece o muere and Biblioteca de Pensamiento Actual, summer universities of Santander and La Rabida, the Ateneo de Madrid and the Departamento Internacional de Culturas Modernas and its section of Philosophy of Culture of the CSIC. From these cultural platforms, this group of intellectuals discussed the idea of Spain as a Catholic, European, regional, monarchical and economically liberal nation. They sought the hegemony of this idea of Spain without problem, which helped to legitimize the Franco regime after the Second World War, in a situation where it needed redefinition after the defeat of fascism in Europe.
