Abstract

In the author's opinion, while Society is coming more and more to accept that the Environmental Issue can only be approached from a multi-disciplinary position, this does not mean that any debate must perforce fall victim, through the calls of that simplification which this requires, to either fuzziness or an lack of practical effect consequent upon the differing claims of those disciples being employed. For the author, a valid method of working here would to make Economic Ecology the focal issue and this should hold that the greatest freedom of both the market and private initiative are ever to be sought. The links between things economic and ecological are to be strengthened as the paper claims that only from an economic stand point can sound and lasting solutions be devised that will answer to the seemingly opposed claims of development and conservation. The paper is rounded out with various suggestions for economics-based working methods which could well be employed in the fight against environmental degradation.
