Abstract

This paper provides a brief non-technical summary of some of the key ideas of the literature that analyzes regional development within the framework of modern growth theory. After reviewing the general structure of growth models and the implications of various hypotheses for the dynamics of the regional income distribution, the paper summarizes some of the key empirical findings of this line of work and identifies some areas of interest for future research.
