Reschedule the City: Urban and Social Issues Around the Program

The contemporary city is experiencing a new review of the public space. The different
transitions between public and private spheres have conditioned in a variable way common spaces
intended for citizens. In recent decades, we have witnessed two phenomena that have forced a new
thinking about urban spaces. On one hand, the public space is becoming less public, under the
shadow of inbred and impervious residential areas and private facilities that more effectively
channel the citizen flow between the promises of consumption. On the other hand, the emergence
of a digital space in the network, this is changing the modes of social relationships in a networked
virtual space. In both phenomena, the idea of the loss of collective identity lies beneath, along with
the absence of conflict in an uncertain horizon.
In this context, the experimental program “estonoesunsolar” arises, aimed to temporary intervention
of unused plots, and that has led to the incorporation of new public and unforeseen spaces to the
city. The text analyzes the urban strategies developed during this process, with the aim of shaping
an inclusive city, ensuring citizen participation processes.
