Support and educational participation of families in the countries of southern Europe: an approach to the spanish and portuguese reality

Abstract

This report presents the results of an investigation into the support university students in Granada, Lisbon and Melilla have received from their parents during their educational years. Through comparative research we have identified a set of features from these southern Europe countries that influence the daily interactions on their inhabitants. This analysis of parents/children relationships in education has aimed a better understanding how the family responds within the moments of the economical crisis, if there is still a division of roles and, finally, the emotional experience of students throughout their time in education. In order to treat these discourses and experiences we have adopted a qualitative methodology.

María Dolores Martín-Lagos López, Universidad de Granada

En la actualidad es profesora y directora del Departamento de Sociología de la UGR. Sus líneas de investigación versan sobre educación, consumo y apoyo familiar empleando la perspectiva comparada entre sociedades. Ha realizado estancias de investigación en el Observatorio Europeo de la Droga y las Toxicomanías (Lisboa), en la Universidad de Stirling como Becaria Marie Curie y en el Oxford Institute of Population Ageing (Programa José Castillejo). Tiene 
reconocidos dos sexenios de investigación (2001-2012).

Profesora en la Facultad de Ciencias de la Educación y del Deporte de Melilla de la UGR. Licenciada en Ciencias Políticas y Sociología por la UNED. Doctora en Sociología por la Universidad de Granada. Tutora del Centro Asociado-UNED de Melilla. Las líneas de investigación versan en educación y apoyo familiar empleando la perspectiva comparada entre sociedades. Socióloga y Coordinadora de Transnacionalidad en el Proyecto Europeo EQUAL 2005-2007. Directora del Centro de Estancia Temporal de Menores Inmigrantes de Melilla  (2001-2004)
