Political power in Spain is one of the best studies of political sociology in our country. It also includes a database of great interest, which is accessible to the scientific community. For the first time in four decades of democracy there is an in-depth survey of parliamentarians in Spain. It includes a detailed, face-to-face survey to an extensive sample of Congressional deputies, senators from the Senate, and deputies from the 17 Parliaments of the Autonomous Communities. In my analysis I focus on the differences between representatives and citizens, especially with reference to the issue of nationalism. Non-hegemonic ideological positions seem to be silenced. I suggest the use of a discrepancy index, as opposed to the responsiveness index. These discrepancies explain the political crisis —just announced— of October 2017 in Catalonia. It would be wise to define policies and solutions that would reduce the intensity of the conflict. But that would lead to another book.
