Abstract

Recently, contemporary Judaism has changed from a monolithic and quiet presence to a pluralistic and assuming reality, more and more visible in the society. Limited in number as a community, it nevertheless has quite a symbolic importance because of the longlasting contentious matter linked to the expulsion of the Jews Decree issued in 1492 by the Catholic kings which happened to be politically settled only five centuries later. In this article, two matters will be tackled: how did Spanish Judaism grow and alter in the last fifteen years all over the Peninsula, and the meaning of such pluralism, as far as local Jewry, as a whole and Spanish society. The subject will be approached according to the sociology of the religions standards and not in terms of any religious or historical point of view.
