Economic efficiency and monopolized closure of linguistic policies
Abstract
This paper presents from an interdisciplinary perspective the main theoretical points that relate linguistic policy, economic efficiency and distribution of economic resources amongst linguistic groups. We start with an analysis of the role of linguistic homogenization in economic growth. In the second place, we focus upon linguistic diversity as an instrument related to exercise economic resources distribution polices, specially regarding labour markets. We conclude there must be a necessary differentiation between transaction costs originating in linguistic reasons and politically established barriers created in order to offer a framework of intelligibility on the consequences of linguistic policies.Downloads
