Call for Papers: Special Issue on Artificial Intelligence – Revista Española de Sociología

The Spanish Journal of Sociology (RES) invites submissions for a special issue dedicated to “Artificial Intelligence and Sociology.” This issue seeks to explore the social, political, economic, and cultural transformations driven by AI. We welcome original manuscripts that make theoretical, methodological, or empirical contributions. Possible topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Transformations in social interaction, networks, and communication driven by AI
  • The impact of AI on labor markets, emerging forms of work, and the reconfiguration of professions
  • Governance of AI systems, AI-based geopolitics, and technological elites
  • AI and stratification: digital inequalities and exclusion
  • AI-supported methodologies in social research
  • Synthetic data and AI-generated simulations
  • Creative innovation through AI and consequences of AI usage
  • Generative AI, cultural and artistic production, and collective memory
  • Consumption, lifestyles, identities, and algorithmic recommendations
  • Transformations in learning and education due to AI
  • Alternative futures for social organization, development, and sustainability in the age of widespread AI
  • Social imaginaries and the futures of AI: sociological analysis of AI narratives, sociological foresight, and future-making
  • AI and professional competencies in sociology
  • Changes in authorship, copyright, and privacy in academic research
  • AI and politics: political polarization, digital activism, and social media
  • AI and public administration: automated decision-making in the public sector, AI and democratic processes, surveillance and social control
  • Social theory approaches for analyzing AI

Submission Guidelines

  • Manuscripts must be original and not under review by other journals
  • Length: between 6,000 and 10,000 words (including references)
  • Language: English or Spanish

  • Manuscripts must be submitted via the RES online platform. There is no abstract submission. The authors must submit the manuscript before the deadline.

Timeline

  • Deadline for full manuscript submissions: October 31st, 2025
  • Manuscripts will undergo an editorial screening process before peer review
  • Expected publication date: 2026
