The paper analyzes the international perspective as a reference on research in school, teaching and /
or education in rural areas. To do this, we proceeded to the inquiry into the scientific literature of
influential journals and databases in which reference is made to papers addressing scientific studies
and thematic reviews. It also provides data and reflections on research in Spain through the doctoral
theses of the last thirty years.
On the possibilities for space research to consolidate rural school with enough quality jobs and
desirable, the work speaks to the theories developed from different contexts. Due to the consideration
that the majority of research has been carried out "from outside" of schools, the proposed action
research as an alternative is shown from the schools for professional enrichment and training available
to the teachers in rural schools.
